josephs1.jpg (13787 bytes)On the right is Dallas's Great Great Grandfather Joseph STOTT, who was born in Lancashire England in 1830.  While still in his early 20s, he sailed to Van Dieman's Land (now Tasmania) with his wife Lucy HALL and son John Joseph STOTT and settled on a farm at Wesley Vale near Devonport in Northern Tasmania.  Joseph's father was Isaac STOTT and Lucy's father was Moses HALL.

Many thanks to Keith and Kevin STOTT of Devonport, Tasmania for lending me this photo of Joseph and the following photo of the STOTTs at Wesley Vale.

Please page down for more generations and photos ...

stott1.jpg (12552 bytes)Seated here is John Joseph STOTT, son of Joseph and Lucy and great grand father of Dallas, and his wife Sarah Ann CLARKE, surrounded by their family.  This photo was taken in Tasmania about 1902.

One of their sons, Ronald Headley STOTT, Dallas's grandfather, is standing second from right at the rear, aged about 20.  He married Emily EAST and they had Wesley Dale estate near Chudleigh, Northern Tasmania, where he was Head Ploughman for Henry Reed.

Sergeant Thomas STOTT standing at middle front was killed in action in the First World War.

stotts0.jpg (36568 bytes)On the right is Ronald's son and Dallas's father, Hilton Dallas STOTT, who married Thelma Elizabeth MARTIN at Caveside, near the Great Western Tiers in Tasmania.

Hilton lives at Devonport on the Northwest Coast of Tasmania.  He loved playing cricket, and achieved three first-class double hat-tricks while bowling for Devonport at the Devonport Oval, where he was Caretaker and Curator for over 30 years.

He is also famous for his imaginative topiary skills.  The shapely pine trees growing alongside his driveway have featured on the TV gardening program Burke's Backyard, and are a regular stop for tourist buses.  He always has a great vegetable garden and each Christmas his house is a blaze of flashing coloured lights.

Hilton had three older sisters Marie, Eileen and Millie, three younger sisters Mavis, Stella and June and an older brother Keith.  Mavis lives in Victoria and the others are in Tasmania.

On the left is Hilton's son, Dallas Wayne STOTT, who married Margaret Beth NOLAN (that's me!).  The year 1999 was a landmark year for us as Dallas turned 50 and we celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary.  Dallas has two married sisters, Helen and Yvonne.  Helen lives at Shearwater near Devonport, Tasmania and Yvonne lives in Brisbane, Queensland.

Dallas now has a beard longer than that of his Great Great Grandfather Joseph STOTT pictured at the top of the page.
