The photos above are of our house at Blackmans Bay in winter 1986 when it snowed all over Southern Tasmania right down to the sea (see photo below). There were several inches of snow in our yard. Most schools were closed and transport came to a halt so people took the day off work, except for one workaholic who skiied over the Tasman Bridge which crosses the Derwent River at Hobart.

Views from Our House

Winter 1986 looking towards the Derwent River and yachts sailing towards Storm Bay at sunset. We occasionally see Humpback Whales and dolphins playing and feeding in the river. Many famous ships like the QE2 have passed by our window, including Tall Sailing Ships, the battleship USS Missouri, and the US aircraft carriers Enterprise, Abraham Lincoln, John C Stennis, Kittyhawk and Carl Vinson and the largest passenger ship to visit Australia, the Star Princess, pictured below entering the Derwent River at sunrise on the right, and berthed in Hobart.
